CHECKPOINT 4 - Machells Coppice (20.5 Miles)

As you approach this checkpoint you will pass Brantwood the former home of John Ruskin (1872 to 1900). Machells Coppice represents the halfway stage and represents the ideal opportunity to rest, take in the scenery and have some well-deserved lunch.

· Refreshments provided – at Checkpoint
· First Aid – at Checkpoint

As you continue along the lake, you will pass by Peel Island where the film Swallows and Amazons was set, and also the location of Donald Campbell’s fatally missed last fuelling point before commencing his final 300 mph run up the lake.

From here when ready you can proceed along the east side of Coniston Water for several miles through the edges of Grisedale Forest and the beautiful village of Nibthwaite to Lowick.
